Interested in reading about horses?

This blog is all about horse books which are available on Amazon, mainly as eBooks for your Kindle but there are also paper books as well. Each day, free eBooks are updated for that day - grab them quick (no limit on the number given away on the day it is free). If you don't have a Kindle but want a free Kindle reading app from Amazon, click the link below (yes, it is free). It only takes a few minutes to get one on your computer, laptop, Android, iPhone or iPad and allows you to access the million or so eBooks available on Amazon. All links on this blog are safe ones which will only take you to Amazon.

Please let your friends and forums know about this blog - the more books that can be given away, the more the authors are promoted, which is why they agree to make them free for a few days. (And if you don't have a Kindle... consider one - I bought one for me, one for my daughter and a third for my 75 year old mother, and I linked the accounts so that every book I buy or pick up for free can be put on any or all Kindles. All of us love our Kindles!)

FOALING

There are a lot of books and e-books on foaling. If you are considering breeding or raising a foal, a selection of books is a very small investment that could have a huge payoff if you learn from them. I've foaled down a few hundred mares over the years and one of my favourite books for Australian conditions was written by Ron and Val Males (from Ralvon Arabian Stud, home of the great World Champion, Ralvon Pilgrim) (sorry, it doesn't come up with an image of the book, but it's a great little book with some good, common sense advice).

Here are some other popular books dealing with breeding and foaling. Some are available as books, some as ebooks, some can be bought second-hand at great prices and some are available all three ways. It doesn't cost a fortune to build a great library dealing with horse issues such as breeding and foaling, and it's something every horse owner should consider doing. With many of the books, you can look at what's inside for free on your computer so you can have an idea about what it is about before buying it. For Australian buyers, remember that most of the Amazon books are coming from the U.S. - I've bought quite a few from there and the postage has been really good, but do check on postage costs no matter where you are buying from.

KINDLE eBOOKS - If you don't have a Kindle, remember you can download a free Kindle reading app for your computer, iPhone, laptop, android or iPad by clicking the link at the top of this page. It's free, and it allows you to download eBooks and read them.

It's been almost 12 months since I updated here because I seemed to be doing a lot of looking around for books on Kindle and Amazon relating to horses while no one really seemed to read the posts... but I've had a few people ask about this of late, so I'll have a go at finding some horse books for you.

First up, some of the free books relating to horses on Kindle, keeping in mind that sometimes the only thing to do with horses is a picture of one on the cover or some character in the book who rides a horse. Just click on the link to get them - and always check that the price is still 'free' when you look at them on Amazon before clicking 'buy now' because they might have changed back from free before you see them. If they are still $0.00, then when you click 'buy now' you won't be charged anything.

A Book To Read To Youngsters

(Today's free eBooks below this post.)
When my three children were knee high to grasshoppers, I used to make up stories for them at night. They were magical, exciting stories to try and develop their imagination and make them feel good and take them to places where they were special. Their favourite stories were the Wild Bird Kingdom stories, so I've started putting them down in book form in a series called 'Read Them Wonder'. The stories can be read in one or two sessions, and are only 99c each, but children will want them read over and over, and you can change the names of the children in the book to their names. There's an explanation at the back of the book as to why these types of stories are important (I have a Masters in Education and my specialist field was in the learning through the arts, such as story telling... so I have a bit of an idea about what I'm saying here) and the language is 'set for reading aloud', which is different from that used when you are just reading to yourself.

If you have some young children, or know of some, put this on your Kindle, iPhone, computer, iPad, or whatever, and keep it close by for reading aloud to them. (The next story in the series, The Wild Bird Kingdom Sports Day, will be out in a week or so.)

Free eBooks Today (May 18)

Sorry that I've been ignoring this blog... with some full time teaching at the local high school (apart from horses and writing, I am actually an English teacher - I just don't work full time), as well as organising the best new thing in showing to hit Australia (see the flyer above), and writing some scripts for Horse Talk TV, writing books and some articles and trying to work horses, run a house, tend the garden and everything else, the blog just missed out for a few weeks. The Lockyer Horse Expo and Exclusively Equine Welcome Show (above) is an exciting new concept in showing - the horse show itself has thousands of dollars worth of prizes but it is not for the elite of the showing world, it is for everyone who owns a horse or pony - even if they can't ride it, there will be at least five events for them to enter that day. There's one whole ring of 'walk trot' classes for people who don't want t canter, and it is a 'jeans and t-shirt' day, so no one has to have expensive show gear. It's a way to try and get everyone to experience the fun of showing.

Back on track, though. I'm pleased to see that Horses Of The Sun and Horses Of The Light have remained in the Top 20 Children's Horse Books for many weeks now, being #1 and #2 for a while, and often in the Top Five. Considering how many hundreds of books there are in this genre, that is fairly exciting. Horses Of The Sun is still #1 on the 100 Top Rated in this genre (with various versions of Black Beauty filling spots 2, 3, 4, and a couple more) and Horses Of The Light remains on the 'Hot New Releases' list. I've started writing the third book in the series, Horses Of The Fire, which is set a year after we first meet the children, and there is a race to try and find who is setting the outback alight before Sunhaven Downs burns along with many other stations, and before any more horses, cattle, sheep and native animals are killed in the horrendous fires. The romantic tension between Amy and Brandon continues to rise, and there are other problems that complicate their journey of growing up and reaching their dreams.

FREE eBOOKS: many authors offer their books for free for a day or two in order to promote their work, and I try and find books that have something to do with horses (sometimes nothing more than a horse on the cover or a cowboy on the inside... if there's a cowboy, there must be a horse somewhere). These are free to download - but always check that the price is still $0.00 before downloading as the book may have gone off the free list by the time you read this.

So, here are today's free eBooks that have something to do with horses (and off to a brilliant start with Jockeys And Jewels!  :

And here are some more free eBooks that may have nothing to do with horses, but they have good reviews (horse on cover of first one!):

FREE eBOOKS TODAY - APRIL 30

These eBooks are free to download today. If you don't have a Kindle, you can either buy one from Amazon using the links on this page (all links go to Amazon for safe shopping) or you can download a free Kindle reading app for your computer, laptop, iPhone, iPad, Android, etc. from the link in the banner at the top of this page.

Horses Of The Sun is free today and tomorrow as part of a promotion for the new book, Horses Of The Light (in the box over on the right of the page), which was released yesterday. Horses Of The Sun is the introductory book to The Outback Riders series and is 36,000 words - a fairly short and easy to read book about young teens growing up in the outback of Australia. Aimed at the 8 - 14 year old market but is very popular with adults who like a good read that doesn't contain sex, swearing, zombies or vampires. Horses Of The Light is $3.99 and is twice as long at 70,000 words and develops the characters and story line as they struggle to survive a dangerous situation while hunting the mysterious Min Min lights.

Free today: Horses Of The Sun.

FREE eBOOKS APRIL 29

These eBooks are free today (well, free at the time of writing - always check that the prices are still $0.00 when you look at the books and before downloading them). For details on why they are free and how to get them, have a look at some previous posts. Also, check back over some of the features on horse books in the archives - some great bargains and some of the best horse books available as eBooks and paper books.

For two days, I'm offering Horses Of The Sun for free to celebrate the release of the new book in The Outback Riders series, Horses Of The Light (you can find the link to this new book over on the right of the page... it still has its 'working cover' at the moment, but it should soon change to the final cover to match the cover on the first book).  Aimed at 8 - 14 year old readers, Horses Of The Sun is the first in The Outback Riders series and introduces us to the four outback children who have to overcome difficulties and tragedy, but their humour and resilience carries them through. It is only 36,000 words long (100 print pages) so is an easy read for younger readers. In Horses Of The Light, we see the romance between Amy and Brandon begin to grow as, once more, they are faced with events that could kill them, but they use all their outback know-how to outsmart the three escaped criminals who threaten their lives, and have an unforgettable experience with the mysterious Min Min lights. At 70,000 words, it is twice the length of the first book.

FREE eBOOKS, MONDAY APRIL 23

These eBooks are free to download today. If you don't have a Kindle (why not?), you can download a free Kindle reading app for your computer, laptop, iPhone, iPad, etc. from the banner at the top of the page so you can build your library of free eBooks... and buy some occasionally. Authors often promote their eBooks by giving them away for a day or two, and I try and find any that relate to horses (sometimes just a horse on the cover) as well as some others that have good reviews. There are also features on horse books (digital and paper) if you look back over the posts and archives - some features on dressage, reining, training, western, showing, etc. with books that can be bought and downloaded as eBooks or as paper versions which will arrive in the mail (some great prices with some on special). So you can also build up your library of paper books here as well.  All links on this blog take you to Amazon, a very safe place to shop on line. I'm in Australia and I buy there frequently, with most items arriving as fast as if I'd bought them here.

Books that have something to do with horses, starting with one of Dr Ann Nyland's books... make sure you have a look at some of Ann's other books as well (she's written a LOT of them), some great reading from a fellow Australian:
